What's the difference between a loft conversion, a house conversion and an extension?

A loft conversion turns the unused space in your roof into a new room. A house conversion makes better use of the space you already have, from garage and cellar conversions to knocking through or adding walls and complete refurbishments. An extension adds brand new space, either by building out to the side or rear, or upwards with a two-storey or over-structure extension. What can a loft conversion be used for?

Just about anything you need more room for, from an extra bedroom to a home office, playroom or games room. Several of our recent projects have included an en suite. In Benington, we turned an empty loft into a master bedroom suite with built-in wardrobes, rooflights, a new staircase and a fully tiled en suite, while in Hitchin a dormer conversion now includes a private study hidden behind a secret bookcase door.

Can a loft conversion and an extension be done at the same time?

They can. In Barkway, we built a side extension and a loft conversion as one project, adding space on both the ground floor and the top floor of the house. Because we look after everything from the design and approvals through to the finishing touches, you only have one team to deal with, however big the project.
